The City of Cape Canaveral Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)

Florida has a very broad public records law. Cape Canaveral CRA Special District Background
In 2012 the City of Cape Canaveral authorized a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Covering 56% of the City. 

CRA General Information

  • Full Legal Name (as cited in Creation Document) — the City of Cape Canaveral Community Redevelopment Agency
  • Public Purpose — to effectuate the Cape Canaveral Vision Statement goals of transforming blight and enhancing economic viability.
  • Boundaries/Service Area — the CRA Boundary Map can be found in the Document Center under Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
  • Services Provided — the District helps address slum and blight through redevelopment initiatives and economic development incentives within the area as outlined in the Community Redevelopment Agency Plan.
  • Charter/Creation Document — Resolution No. 2012-16 can be found in the Document Center under Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
  • Statute under which the Special District Operates — Chapter 163, Part III, Florida Statutes
  • Date Established — 8/21/2012
  • Establishing Party — Cape Canaveral City Council

The District is governed by Florida Statutes Chapter 163, Part III and Chapter 189, as well as the Community Redevelopment Agency Plan that addresses the unique needs of the City’s redevelopment area.

The CRA Plan can be found in the Document Center, and includes overall goals for development/redevelopment activities as well as spells out types of projects and programs for the area.

Because the City of Cape Canaveral is financially accountable for the activities of the Cape Canaveral CRA, its governing board is the same and its relationship to the City is significant, its financial activities are reported on a blended basis as if it were part of the primary government as a major special revenue fund. 

The CRA’s Fiscal Year (FY) is October 1 to September 30 of the following year.

The City of Cape Canaveral Community Redevelopment Agency Board is scheduled to hold regular meetings for FY20/21 on:

All meetings begin at 5:00 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) and are held at the Cape Canaveral City Hall Council Chambers, 100 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Florida.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act: all interested parties may attend these Public Meetings. The facility is accessible to the physically handicapped. Persons with disabilities needing assistance to participate in the proceedings should contact the Agency Clerk’s office (321) 868-1220, Ext. 207 or Ext. 206, 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
